ESCATI ‘WALKING FOR THAILAND 1998 STORY’ - WALKING TO KHAO HUAI LUNG

by Dennis on June 21, 2008

Sunday 21st June, 1998. We started walking from Nakhon Sawan at 06.30 hrs on Highway 1. There were long straight stretches of 10 kms on the dual carriageway. We had great views of the countryside and in the afternoon we saw some odd shaped mountains in the distance. We reached them at ‘Khao Huai Lung’, after we had walked 37 kms and decided to call it a day in a ‘bus stop sala’ which was near a school and opposite a Temple. We tried to stay at the Temple, but they had no room available for us. (See tomorrow 22nd June, 1998 as to why) En route, there were many stalls beside the road selling hammocks. We bought one for Baht 130 and William slept in it at our 5 star roadside ‘bus stop sala”. I had a blanket that William carried for me, that we had bought in Ranong. We found some food locally then settled in at our sala for a good night’s sleep, as all the night time bus and truck traffic roared past us on Highway 1 plus all the mosquitoes in the area came to meet us and buzz us.
